Atmosphere - The atmosphere in Equator Cafe is so soothing it's almost erotic. There was a time when I couldn't find a coffee shop without indy dunk-d-dunk playing loudly and rexi baristo/as serving instant mud. Then I found this place. It was like coming across an oasis after being lost in a desert when your bedouin guides ditch you and run off with your food, money and your youngest and most attractive wife.

Food - The food is so delectable it's almost erotic. I used to have a healthy diet until I tried the chocolate cookies served at the Equator Cafe. Now I have a fat neck and I have to go to work wearing a towel around my waste because none of my pantalones fit. But the cookies make every sideways glance and every arrest worth it. Trust me.

Beverages - The beverages are so satisfying they're almost erotic. Coffee is bodaciously bad in most cafes because you are served by philistines who have no concept of the BEAN. The Equator Cafe employees can make you a coffee that you will come running back for, whispering to yourself in a fake Spanish accent, "I like it, I like it."

  4. Coffee and Conversation

Atmosphere - Wonderful place to go and relax for a cup of coffee. Good conversations are all around. Steve: Sorry it was negative for you the first time, maybe you should actually try it before you are such an all around a$$.

Food - The sandwiches are incredible - and I highly recommend the red pepper soup.

Beverages - What's so unique about this place is each barista has their own drink they will make for you, and it's usually something you have never had. Coffee is better than stumptown, and the teas are to die for.

Atmosphere - Spacious and lovely, enormous windows where you can peer out above the willamette and read books by Conrad or Dostoevsky, drink jasmine pearl tea and listen to Ederlezi at times.

Food - has yet to be tried

Beverages - I went for my first time a few days ago and had one of their loose teas, very good

  7. Great food and coffee, cool place, laptop friendly, and free internet!

Atmosphere - Real cool atmosphere, layed back and friendly. There's always something interesting going on there. Bring a friend, and chat around an outdoor street-side table, or come solo, grab a book from the library and retreat to a comfy couch. Don't have a laptop? Not a problem - there is a public internet terminal that can be used by anyone. For Free!

Food - Food is always fresh and delicious. Everything is prepared using local ingredients. Good selection of deli and bagel sandwiches, and an array of tasty treats from local bakeries. Try the Ultimate Bars!

Beverages - The Coffee was outstanding, and very fairly priced. There were also a plethora of uncommon, interesting cold beverages including soda in the old-style glass bottles!

Atmosphere - I'm actually the owner of Equator and I read that last review and felt like posting so not everyone thinks we suck. To Steve: Sorry! To others interested in coming here: his experience does not at all reflect the cafe. Actually, I have no idea how he could have had such a bad time here. Our atmosphere is pretty chilled out. We've got comfy chairs, a piano (oft-played, with jazz, classical, sometimes chopsticks). We've got a good sized book library, and a nice 22 foot bartop that's frequently covered in laptops. Music on the stereo ranges from Fela Kuti to Goran Bregovic to Neko Case. There's a free public access terminal (donated thanks for FreeGeek), a couch, and the wifi connection is strong as hell thanks to high gain attennae on the AP.

Food - Damn tasty bagel sandwiches. We use Gabriel's Bakery for all of our baked goods. Humos and avocade on a jalapeno cheese? Mm.

Beverages - Standard assortment of coffee drinks. Except we roast our own coffee beans on a Sivetz fluid bed (how many others can say that huh?)

Atmosphere - Decided to try a new spot. Big mistake! My girlfriend and I went and the barista was horrible. Didn't know one size glass from another, took forever to make the coffe, didn't give us change for a $20 bill (!) until we asked for it (he had to go back and open the till), and he was incredibly rude. And the coffee was watery. And the whole vibe of the place was terrible. Never going back. The Internet connection was not usable at all. It literally dropped every 5 to 10 seconds. I couldn't even download my e-mail because the connection kept dropping.

    Food - Didn't eat anything.

Beverages - The barista said, "I don't have any clean pint glasses. Oh wait -- I think these are clean." No joke! The coffee was terrible.
